For edited projects and creations, Fotor saves photos in your account's cloud storage under "My Projects" or "Uploads," which you can access and re-edit at any time. To save an image to your computer or device, you must manually click the "Download" button within the editor.
Where photos are saved by function
How Fotor saves your photos depends on the tool you are using:
Fotor photo editor
- Automatic Cloud Save: When you edit a photo, Fotor automatically saves a version to your online cloud album. This allows you to continue editing your work later.
- My Projects and Uploads: You can find these saved, in-progress projects in the "My Projects" section on the Fotor home page. Your original uploaded images are located in the "Uploads" section.
- Local Download: To save the finished photo to your computer, you must click the "Download" button in the upper-right corner of the editor.
Fotor Design & Collage tools
- Cloud Synchronization: Similar to the photo editor, any work you create with the Design or Collage tools is saved and synchronized with your Fotor account's cloud storage.
- My Projects: All your past collage and design projects can be found in the "My Projects" section of your Fotor account.
- Local Download: To save the final design to your computer, you must click the "Download" button.
AI image generator
- My Creation: Images generated by Fotor's AI tools are stored in the "My Creation" section, which you can access from the top menu bar.
- Manage, Download, or Delete: From the "My Creation" page, you can manage, download, or delete your AI-generated images.
AI Avatar generator
- Temporary Cloud Storage: When you use the AI Avatar generator, your uploaded photos are temporarily stored on Fotor's servers to create the avatars. For privacy, these uploaded images are automatically and permanently deleted within 24 hours after the process is complete.
- Long-term Cloud Storage for Output: The generated avatar images (the output) are stored in the Fotor cloud so you can access them later.
How to download your photos from Fotor
To save your work from Fotor to your local computer or device, follow these steps:
- Click the "Download" button, typically located in the upper-right corner of the editing canvas.
- Choose your desired file format (JPG, PNG, PDF). Note that different tools may have different options.
- Select any additional export settings, such as image quality or size.
- Choose the local folder on your computer where you want to save the final image.
Understanding Fotor's cloud storage system
Integration and accessibility
Fotor's approach to saving photos provides a seamless experience for users who work on multiple devices. Since all projects are synced to the cloud, you can start a project on your computer, save it, and then pick up where you left off on a different device by simply logging into your Fotor account.
Raw vs. finished files
It is important to understand the distinction between Fotor's cloud storage and local downloads. The cloud storage holds your editable project files, which may contain layers and other editing data. A local download, on the other hand, is an exported, flattened image file that can no longer be re-edited with Fotor's tools.
Privacy considerations
Fotor's data retention policies vary depending on the feature. The AI Avatar generator is designed to protect user privacy by automatically deleting uploaded facial data after a short time. However, inputs for other AI features and manually uploaded photos for editing are stored longer to allow continuous access and editing. Users can manually delete their content from their Fotor account to manage their privacy.
