How to see Microsoft poll results depends on where the poll was created. Most Microsoft polls are created using Microsoft Forms, which is integrated into other applications like Teams and Outlook.
To view results, you must be the poll creator or a designated collaborator.
Part 1: Viewing poll results in Microsoft Forms
Whether you created the poll directly in Microsoft Forms, or it was generated via Teams or Outlook, the definitive place to view results is the Forms website.
Step 1: Navigate to Microsoft Forms
- Go to forms.office.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Alternatively, click the App Launcher (the nine-dot icon) from any Microsoft 365 application and select Forms.
Step 2: Open your poll
- Select the "My forms" or "Recent" tab to find your poll.
- Click on the poll you want to view.
Step 3: View the summary
- Once the poll is open, click the Responses tab at the top.
- The initial view provides a summary of the results, including the number of responses, the average time to complete the poll, and a graphical breakdown of the responses for each question.
Step 4: Analyze detailed responses
From the Responses tab, you have several options for a deeper analysis:
- View results: Click "View results" to see individual responses one-by-one. Use the arrow buttons or the respondent drop-down menu to navigate between submissions.
- More details: For a specific question, click the "More details" link to see a table listing each respondent and their answer. This is only possible if the poll was created with the "Record names of respondents" option enabled.
- Open in Excel: Click "Open in Excel" to download a spreadsheet with all the poll data. This is the most robust way to analyze your results. The Excel file provides raw data with timestamps, and respondent names if they were recorded.
Part 2: Viewing poll results in Microsoft Teams
In a Teams chat or meeting, poll results are displayed directly on the poll card.
During a meeting
- Real-time updates: As participants vote, the poll card in the chat will show real-time, aggregated results.
- Detailed view: If you are the poll creator, click "View results" on the poll card to see the full details in the Forms app.
After a meeting
- Find the poll card: Go back to the meeting chat and find the message with the poll. The poll card will display the final aggregate results.
- Go to Microsoft Forms: For the detailed view, follow the steps for Microsoft Forms described above. The poll will be saved automatically under your account in Forms.
Part 3: Viewing poll results in Microsoft Outlook
Polls created within Outlook emails are powered by Microsoft Forms, so the process is similar.
- View in email: The poll sender and recipients can see aggregated results in the voting card that appears in the body of the email. Click "Refresh" to see the latest results.
- Go to Microsoft Forms: For the full, detailed results, including respondent names (if recorded), click the "View in Forms" link on the email's voting card or navigate to forms.office.com and find your poll.
Part 4: Sharing poll results
As the poll owner, you have several options for sharing the results with others.
Share a summary link
- Go to the Responses tab of your poll in Microsoft Forms.
- Click the three-dot "More options" (...) menu next to "Open in Excel."
- Select "Share a summary link."
- Click "Copy." You can then share this link with anyone, who can view the summary page in a browser.
Share the Excel file
- After downloading the responses to an Excel file, you can share the spreadsheet directly with others, giving them access to the raw data.
Share in Teams
- If you enabled the "Share aggregated results with respondents" option when creating the poll in Teams, voters will be able to see the summary results automatically after they vote.
Troubleshooting poll results
If you or a respondent cannot see the expected results, consider these points:
- Permissions: You must be the poll creator or a designated co-author to access detailed results.
- Recording names: For results with individual names, the "Record names of respondents" option must have been selected when the poll was created.
- Deleted link: If a summary link has been removed by the owner, it will no longer work.
- Anonymous polls: If a poll was set up to be anonymous, individual names cannot be retrieved, even by the creator.
- Meeting vs. Forms app: In Teams, if you used an older "Forms" poll app instead of the current "Polls" app, you may need to access the results via forms.microsoft.com.
